2 FLUID DYNAMICS STOKES LAW EQUATION OF CONTINUITY BERNOULLIS EQUATION
APPLICATION OF BERNOULLI EQUATION(VENTURI METER,NOZZLE,AERODYNAMICS) TERMINAL VELOCITY

3 S. L. O 6. 2 Equation of Continuity 6. 2
S.L.O 6.2 Equation of Continuity derive the equation of continuity;

4 6.2.2 describe the motion of a rocket on the basis of the equation of continuity;
ROCKET WORKS USING THE PRINCIPLE OF EQUATION OF CONTINUITY. THE NOZZLE SPACE FOR EJECTION OF GASES IS OF SMALL CROSS SECTIONAL AREA AND ACCORDING TO THE EQUATION A1VA=A2V2=CONSTANT,SO SINCE THE AREA OF CROSS SECTION OF EJECTION OF GASES IS SMALL SO VELOCITY INCREASES AND GASES EJECT WITH GREAT VELOCITY. THESE EJECTED GASES EXERTS PRESSURE ON THE GROUND(ACTION) AND AS A REACTION THE ROCKET MOVES UPWARDS.

5 6.3.1 derive Bernoulli’s equation;

6 VENTURI METER The Venturi meter is a device for measuring discharge in a pipe. It consists of a rapidly converging section which increases the velocity of flow and hence reduces the pressure. It then returns to the original dimensions of the pipe by a gently diverging 'diffuser' section. By measuring the pressure differences the discharge can be calculated. This is a particularly accurate method of flow measurement as energy loss are very small.

7 AEROFOIL

8 6.4.1 define viscous and non-viscous fluids;
Viscosity is a measure of resistance of a fluid to flow A viscous fluid is one which resists movement or the movement of an object through the fluid. A fluid with viscosity zero is called non- viscous.

9 CONDITION FOR BERNOULLI EQUATION
STEADY FLOW INCOMPRESSIBLE (DENSITY CONSTANT) EQUATION IS APPLIED ALONG A STREAMLINE EFFECT OF SHEAR STRESS IS NEGLIGIBLE (NEGLIGIBLE AIR RESISTANCE)

10 6.5.1 define fluid friction Fluid friction is the force that resists the movement of a solid object through a fluid (liquid or gas). Sky divers falling down through the sky experience a type of fluid friction called air resistance.

11 6.5.2 apply dimensional analysis to confirm the form of the Stoke’s law;
F = krxηyvz  We have MLT-2 = Lx(ML-1T-1)y(LT- 1)z Solving this gives x = 1, y = 1 and z = 1.  By other methods k can be shown to be 6π. Thus giving: F = 6πηrv

12 6.6.1 define terminal velocity;
It is maximum constant velocity acquired by the body while falling freely in a viscous medium.
