PANACeA
To maintain biodiversity and natural ecosystems through strengthening the management and networking of protected areas
PANACeA is an INTERREG MED horizontal project that aims at streamlining networking and management efforts in Mediterranean Protected Areas towards better nature conservation and protection.
PANACeA builds on the work of thematic modular projects which, put together, can increase their impact towards common regional targets.
PANACeA will do so by:
Synthesizing outcomes of projects on natural protection and biodiversity conservation efforts;
Engaging a wider stakeholders community and transferring knowledge beyond the projects’ lifetime;
Implementing a coordinated communication and dissemination strategy; and
Developing a long term capitalization tool ensuring evidence-based policy enforcement.

PANACeA is a joint project proposal that answers the Interreg Med call under priority Axis 3, SP 3 under its strategy ( ).
It focuses its actions to respond to the output indicators set by the Interreg Med strategy namely by functioning as an effective interface between the latest scientific results and protection, conservation and governance state of the art experiences resulting from MP under PANACeA-s actions set within its Strategies and action plans will influence policies developments at different scales and its implementation in the Mediterranean region, reaching by this the result indicator set by the Interreg Med programme; being namely an increased share of PA in the Mediterranean that are effectively managed and conserved so they meet the set conservation goals and objectives.

WG2 main products/actions (to be) developed within PANACeA:
Drafting of technical reports;
on methodologies and toolkits enhancing cooperation among representatives of MPAs, fishermen (SSF), scientists and policy decision makers);
report to be addressed to EUSAIR THEMATIC STEERING GROUPS PILLAR 1 & 3 in order to promote labalisation of MPs in the framework of specific AI ETC call and/or macroregional projects;
Development effective and efficient links:
between PANACeA and the GFCM and/or other local institutions (e.g. MPAs, EC/DG MARE, FLAGs, Clusters - Distretto Pesca of Mazzara del Vallo - etc. ), to promote and/or capitalise on MPs' results on data collection and/or methodologies for data proceeding;
Foster and promote collaborations with:
the GFCM in the current debate on the future definition of Small Scale Fisheries for the Mediterranean basin;
the European Commission (DG MARE) in order to highlight the crucial role played by the EMFF in supporting transferability and implementation of the MPs' results;
FARNET in order to promote synergies between the establishment of Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) within the administrative boundaries of the MPAs.
