Where:
an academy database has been formed from the school it replaced,
the establishment number for the academy is different to the school it replaced and
the DOA from the school the academy replaced has been left in place,
it is very important for the academy to indicate the earliest possible DOA for their pupils.

Where the database indicates a DOA from before the date when the academy opened,
the Census application will report that DOA as the date entered for ‘Earliest DOA’ and
all data dependent on the DOA will be modified by the Census application in line with the ‘Earliest DOA’.

When a pupil leaves a school it is good practice to make use of Routines | Pupils | Leavers and to fill in the Destination Institution. 
There are a number of reasons for this being good advice from a statutory returns point of view.

13. School Census Spring 2018
If a pupil returns to the school after being on roll at another school their DOA should obviously the latest date of arrival at the school. 
However, if they return to the school without being on roll at another institution their DOA for the purposes of statutory returns would be the previous date of arrival at the school.
LAs may insist that the future school is supplied to the LA for the purpose of avoiding children going missing from education.
