5 Responding to changes in the objectives
Your schemes of work will not fully embrace the new curriculum if you only ‘find and replace’ objectives as a one-off task Aim for a phased change to pupils’ learning experience and update objectives as units are adapted to include new teaching and learning, e.g. a greater focus on the key processes. 3.3

6 Mathematical processes and applications objectives
Include some recognisable ‘Using and applying’ objectives Are aligned against the headings of key processes Include two rows that are not split into columns: Solve problems, explore and investigate in a range of contexts (ways of increasing challenge and building progression) Mathematical procedures (described in the range and content objectives) 3.4

A tailored objective Pupils should learn to: represent 100-square patterns using symbols and expressions, and work logically to produce and explain generalisations; compare different approaches and recognise where they are equivalent 3.5
