2. In 2008 there were 214 crossing collisions across Canada
26 resulted in fatalities
36 others were seriously injured

3. Approximately 50% of vehicle/train collisions occur at crossings with active warning devices
(gates, lights, bells)

All rail crossings on Vale property in Ontario Operations are equipped with a
STOP sign and cross bucks at minimum

5. An average of 17% did rolling stops. Almost 2% did not stop at all.
Close to 3000 vehicles crossed at 3 specific rail crossings over a 36 hour period.

In June 2011 an audit was done in the smelter complex.
