1 What has caught your eye?
Matthew 6:16-24

2 Matthew 6:16-24 16 “Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face 18 so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

3 Matthew 6:16-24 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

4 Fasting Not if, but when… Seeking the fullness of God, not arm twisting. Why is showing you are fasting hypocrisy? It’s a matter of the heart. Being seen fasting and fasting to be seen are not the same thing.

5 Fasting – The Reality Test.
Seeking treasures in heaven not on earth. Are we working the horizontal axis alone? The vertical axis must come first. The reality, reason and the reward of fasting… Hallowed be your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done…

6 Mammon Jesus talked about this a lot! Mark 10:21, Luke 6:20, 14:33, 18:25, 12:15, Matthew 6:33, Luke 12:33, 19:8-9, Matthew 13:44, Luke 21:1, 12:20-21, 9:58. Matthew 23:23, Acts 2:45, Corinthians 8:2, 9:7, James 1:11. You will be mastered by either money or God.

7 Mammon Lay up treasure in heaven not here on earth. Caution required! Luke 12:32-33, 14:13-14 Honor God, not man.

8 The Context – Eye and Heart
What goes into your life is important. What stays in your life is important. Through fasting I teach my heart to wait on God. Through giving I teach my heart to value others and God’s glory.

9 The Summary. Fix your eyes on what gives God glory and you will be filled with light and God will be your guide. Fix your heart on the work of thinking about what He thinks so you can serve Him first in all you think, do, and say. You’re of little earthly use unless you’re heavenly minded. The challenge…
