1 What is alternative energy? Give an example.
Bell Work: 11/9/16 What is alternative energy? Give an example.

2 Essential Learning Research a problem relating to transportation, distribution, and logistics that could be solved using science, engineering, technology, and/or math. Design a model of a transportation technology based on specific criteria and constraints. Test the model’s performance. Modify single aspects of the model’s design and retest the model.

3 Success Criteria I can…
complete research on the following topics: alternative energy, solar panels, DC motors, motors & gears (how they work together). brainstorm different designs for the first two missions. complete a decision matrix with my team to choose a design for the first two challenges. design and create a robot to complete a specific mission.

4 Team Contract Your team will create a contract that will include team responsibilities, a constitution, individual roles, and other specific policies that will ensure a successful challenge.

5 14-in-1 Solar Robots

6 Robotics Mission Impossible Challenge
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to complete as many robotic missions as possible. You must complete at least two missions to get full credit; however, the more robotic missions your team completes, the more points will be awarded to your house. Can your team create a zombie robot to take over the human race or create a robot that can move on ice to save Anna from Elsa’s castle? What about a robot that can move on water to help Percy destroy Hades? This message will self-destruct in five seconds…

7 Robotic Missions Mission 1: Zombie Apocalypse Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a zombie robot that can take over the human race. Mission 2: Water World Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a robot that can move on water to help Percy destroy Hades. Mission 3: Desert of Doom Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a robot that can move on sand to help Mad Max escape the evil clutches of Nightrider and his Outback motorcycle gang. Mission 4: Mars Mission Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a robot that can move over rocky terrain and inhabit Mars. Mission 5: Frozen Frenzy Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a robot that can move on ice and save Anna from Elsa’s castle. Mission 6: Daytona 500 Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a racing robot for the Daytona 500. Can your racer bot lap all of the competition and win the coveted Harley J. Earl trophy?

8 Restate your problem State what you already know List any limitations or controls

9 Research the following topics:
Alternative energy Solar panels (How do they work?) DC motors Motors and gears (How do they work together?) Brainstorm ideas INDIVIDUALLY for the first two missions.

11 Create two decision matrices for the first two missions
Create two decision matrices for the first two missions. Decide on a design for both missions. Sketch the design (label with mission #). Make a materials list—justify ALL materials! (for each mission) Make list of steps you will take to engineer your robot.

12 Create your robot. Think about variables you might test. Test the functionality of your robot (ex. distance traveled, time, speed, etc.). Write down what happened when you tested.

13 After testing, improve your design.
Make note of the improvements your group made? What happened when you re-tested? Did you have to improve again? If so, how did you improve?

14 Use a Post-It Note to “tweet” about the following question:
Tweet a response… Use a Post-It Note to “tweet” about the following question: Why are renewable energy resources, such as solar energy, a better “alternative”?
