SDCCDs local graduation requirements Required for Associate degrees excluding the AA-T/AS-T 4. Health Education - Currently met by completing Health Education 101: Health and Lifestyle (3 units) 5. Exercise Science Activity - Currently met by completing two activity courses in Exercise Science

3 Reason for Proposal More diverse student body than when DR 4 & 5 were created; all students need to develop life skills, but not all need the same skills A wider variety of disciplines now offer life skills courses than when DR 4 & 5 were created “Wellness” is more than just Health Ed and PE

4 Proposal for New District Requirement
Lifelong Wellness Education (combine and replace requirements 4 & 5) Students required to complete a minimum of four (4) units from at least two categories: Any physical activity course(s) Any Health and Wellness course(s) Select Psychology courses Select Child Development courses Select Personal Growth courses Select Biology courses **Students can still clear requirement with approved prior learning in specific occupations or military training. Individual courses would be proposed for these categories (same as current practice) Recommend via CIC the combination of District Requirement 4 (Health Education) and 5 (Physical Education) into one District Requirement Full Description Students are required to complete four units of coursework designed to equip them with foundations and skills to develop, implement, enhance and commit to lifelong health and wellness, both for personal well-being and societal responsibility. This requirement may be fulfilled by any combination of the following courses designed to develop individuals as integrated physiological, social and psychological beings through holistic awareness and education: - Any physical activity course(s) (e.g. Aerobic and Core Conditioning, Cardio Conditioning) - Any health and wellness course(s) (e.g. Health and Lifestyle, Community Health; Intro to Human Aging) - Any nutrition course (s) (e.g. Nutrition, Cultural Foods) - Select psychology courses (e.g. Marriage and Family Relations, Human Sexual Behavior, Biofeedback and Stress Management; Sexuality and Black Culture) - Select child development courses and personal growth courses (e.g. Human Growth and Development; College Success and Lifelong Learning) - Select biology courses (e.g. Biology of Human Nutrition) NOTE: students must complete courses from at least two categories. NOTE: This requirement is cleared for the following categories of students: 1) Graduates of an accredited nursing program 2) Graduates of a certified paramedic training program 3) Graduates of a California accredited law enforcement, detentions, or firefighter academy 4) Graduates of a physical therapy assistant program 4) Current or former U.S. military personnel who have completed basic military training as evidenced by any of the following: - DD-214 or DD-295 certifying completion of basic training - Military transcript (JST, CCAF, etc.) certifying completion of basic training - Official documentation demonstrating six months of continuous active duty military service - Official documentation demonstrating two years of continuous reserve/National Guard military service
