4 Figure 3 IBS symptom severity (mean ± SD) in patients who completed the intervention. IBS symptom severity measured by IBS-SSS was reduced in both groups at the end of the intervention period (day 29) compared with baseline (P < .001 in both groups), whereas at day 14, the reduction in the IBS-SSS reached statistical significance in the low-FODMAP group (P = .002), with a trend in the same direction in the traditional IBS diet group (P = .051).
