2 Subjects and Predicates
The subject of a sentence is who or what the sentence is about. The predicate tells what the subject is, or what it did.

3 Can you find the subject in each sentence below?
My little brother broke his finger. His Uncle Bob asked for directions. Those soldiers carried guns. Our babysitter arrived late.

4 Can you find the simple subject in each sentence below?
My little brother broke his finger. His Uncle Bob asked for directions. Those soldiers carried guns. Our babysitter arrived late.

5 The Predicate A predicate always begins with the verb or verbs that links up with the subject.

8 Sometimes PRONOUNS are used in place of nouns…
Remember that pronouns are words like I, me, he, she, we, it, they, them.

9 Subject Pronouns When a pronoun replaces a noun in the subject of a sentence, it is a SUBJECT PRONOUN! Kelsey ran all the way home. SHE was very tired!

10 Object pronouns When a pronoun is used in the predicate it is the OBJECT of whatever the action in the sentence describes. Therefore, it is the OBJECT PRONOUN.

11 Let’s look at an example!
My sister’s puppy bit her hand. In this sentence, “puppy” is the subject because that is what the sentence is about. The verb is “bit” ~ that tells what the puppy did. The predicate is “bit her hand” ~ since “her” is a pronoun, it is an OBJECT PRONOUN.
