2 Personal: List the year of your birth on the top, and 2016 on the bottom On the LEFT of the timeline, list at least FIVE events that have defined your personal life. You might choose things like: Moving Births of siblings Starting a new school Going on a big trip

3 National/Global On the RIGHT of your timeline, list national or global events that you remember happening in your lifetime Discuss your events with your group Choose 3-5 events that stand out, and write them on index cards Tape your cards to the timeline in the back of the room.

What patterns do you see in the types of national/global events that the class remembers? What stands out to us? How might this be the same/different from other generations? How do personal memories shape our views of the world?

5 Analyzing Hurricane Harvey
How might Harvey impact our timelines? Read article/take notes – 1-2 “notes” per section Discuss in groups Thought Box Reflection Sheet

6 Follow-Up Analysis Choose one of the following prompts:

This event is important to know about because… (pick an event from your timeline) Find a news article that will help you address your prompt. Read and highlight your article, and tape it into your comp book. Using your article as an example/source of information, write 2 paragraphs addressing your chosen prompt. In your writing, use at least 2 quotes from your article. Cite.
