5 South Dakota’s Accountability System
100-point School Performance Index (SPI) Three key indicators with a numeric value are assigned to each school’s performance Values are added together to create a total SPI score out of 100 for each school

6 Indicators used to create the School Performance Index
ELEMENTARY/JH (Grades 3-8) Student Achievement Academic Growth Attendance HIGH SCHOOL (Grade 11 Only) Student Achievement High School Completion College and Career Readiness (ACT, Accuplacer, NCRC)

7 Academic Achievement The Smarter Balanced Assessment performance is given to students in grades 3-8 and 11 in English Language Arts and Math. Scores are reported as the percentage of students who scored a level 3 or 4 in ELA and Math. Points are earned for Gap and Non-gap groups. Points are weighted according to the size of the group.

8 Academic Growth Student Growth Percentiles
This is based on a formula for projected, three-year growth.

9 High School Completion
Completer Rate Percentage of students in current graduating year who attained a diploma or GED. Four-year Graduation Cohort Rate Percentage of students in current graduating year who graduate with a diploma in four years.

10 ATTENDANCE Based on the goal that 94% of the students will be in school 94% of the time. SPI shows the percentage of the Elementary/Junior High students who were in school 94% of the days that they were enrolled.
