1 (A) Worsening jaundice and right-sided abdominal pain were the presenting complaint in this adolescent girl with sickle cell disease. Sickle cell-related causes of RUQ syndrome include cholecystitis, “gallstone,” pancreatitis and sickle cell hepatopathy. (B) Ultrasound shows a large stone within the gallbladder with acoustical shadowing. There is also sludge within the gallbladder lumen.
