2 The first change As pupils reach school leaving age of 16, they will be at school because they WANT to continue their education Increased expectations around independence and personal responsibility

3 CURRICULUM 2017/2018 6 periods of study for each of the five subjects (double periods) Health Promoting School 2 periods of core PE Personal Learning Plan PSHE, Heart Start, RME, Employability 1 period

4 ASSESSMENT OF COURSES SCOTTISH QUALIFICATIONS AUTHORITY
SCHOOL: Unit assessments - throughout ONE year for Higher courses In addition, almost all N5 and Higher courses include an Assignment or Folio type assessment Many departments supplement these with additional testing (A/B tests) to increase rigour and track progress

5 POST SCHOOL DESTINATIONS
Places at University, College and in Modern Apprenticeships are in very high demand S5 must be seen to have been a challenge that pupils have met ‘heads on’ and shown success Many universities give qualifications for one or two sittings, some will only accept first sitting qualifications Success in S5 allows for opportunities for wider achievement to be fully explored in S6
