Content ODP-based ontology design (interactive exercise)
Valentina Presutti and Eva Blomqvist Lecture Corso Dottorato 2011 Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Informazione Bologna, Italy
2
Pattern-based design aka eXtreme Design (XD)
Pattern-based ontology design is the activity of searching, selecting, and composing different patterns Logical, Reasoning, Architectural, Presentation, Correspondence, Content Common framework to understand modeling choices (the “solution space”) wrt task- and domain-oriented requirements (the “problem space”) is the place that has started collecting ODPs

Pattern composition Are there disjoint classes?
Are there equivalent classes? Are there named relations involving (domain, range, restrictions) entities from the two (or more) patterns? Are there incompatibilities to be resolved? …
43
How to use CPs for ontology design
Analyze the competency question Detect the modeling issues Match them to the CPs
44
Imagine we have to model the following
Arnold Schwarzenegger is Shylock in the play of "Merchant of Venice”, that is given at the theater “Roma” during September and October 2009
45
What we mean by matching cqs to CPs
What do we mean by matching a cq to CPs? To compare the local cqs to the cqs covered by a CP in order to evaluate the CP suitability for solving the local problems Ongoing work on automatic support for CP selection starting from local cqs parsing of requirements and extraction of cqs formalization of cqs NLP support to match cqs terminology to CP lexicalizations case-based reasoning ontology matching The XD tool 45
