The conversation is a polite one. Her interactions with others in town are also very similar. She’s not friends with anyone, but she is being friendly.

She wants to make people aware of the problems in her town. She feels the need to “clean her town” and rid the town of sin and evil.

13 Did the narrator foreshadow what Miss Strangeworth’s real personality might be like early in the story? No. She seems nice and polite and disassociates her with anything that seems out of place. She begins to seem sinister when she sits down to write the first letter. The narrator does foreshadow negative events to come because they discuss the strange behaviors of all the townspeople.

14 Why is miss strangeworth’s name oddly symbolic?
She has an odd sense of self confidence and approval. She thinks her birth-given right allows her to pass judgment on others and that it is her responsibility to run the town.
