Riddle Me This In British Columbia you cannot take a picture of a man with a wooden leg. Why not? It's a stormy night and a plane takes off from JFK airport in New York. The storm worsens, and the plane crashes - half lands in the United States, the other half lands in Canada. In which country do you bury the survivors? Johnny's Mother had three children. The first child was named April. The second child was named May. What was the third child’s name?

Entry Task If one guppy requires 5 L of water to live happily, what is the maximum number of guppies that should be kept in this aquarium? 1 cubic cm = .001 L

10.5 – Density

10.5 Displacement and Density
Read page 551 through example A

Example 1 A stone is placed in a 5 cm-diameter graduated cylinder, causing the water level in the cylinder to rise 2.7 cm. What is the volume of the stone?

Example 2 When a chunk of metal is dropped into a container of water, the water level rises 1.2 cm. The container is shaped like a square prism, with a base that measures 4 cm on each side. What is the density of the metal if its mass is 52 grams? (Express your answer in grams/cm3, rounded to the nearest thousandth.)

Example 3 Which has more mass: a solid cylinder of gold with a height of 5cm and a diameter of 6cm or a solid cone of platinum with a height of 21 cm and a diameter of 8cm?

Example 4 A Chemist is given a clump of metal and is told that it is sodium. He finds that the metal has a mass of 145.5g. He places it into a nonreactive liquid in a square prism whose base measures 10 cm on each edge. The liquid rose 2cm. Is the metal sodium? How do you know?
