1 Do Now: Write down tonight’s homework question in your agenda. Your answer will be written in your composition book. Explain your response in 2-3 paragraphs Interview someone who experienced 9/11 and answer the following question “ How has 9/11 negatively affected the United States? How has it made our country better or stronger?. Objective: We will be learning about the September 11th attacks.

It was the total number of people who passed away during the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Terrorism: violent acts intended to create fear, targets are usually non-military civilians Osama bin Laden: person responsible for organizing and funding 9-11 attacks Pentagon: headquarters of U.S. Department of Defense, located in Northern Virginia World Trade Center: group of 7 buildings in NYC, included the Twin Towers; financial hub Al-Qaeda: Terrorist group lead by bin Laden

1. 1st plane WTC North Tower-8:46 (around 50,000 people work there) 2. 2nd plane hit WTC South Tower- 9:03 3. Plane hit Pentagon in DC- 9:37 4. Hijacked plane crashed in field in PA. (plane’s destination was either the Capitol Building or White House) Osama bin Laden & Al-Qaeda were responsible- recruited 19 Hijackers to take planes. Men trained in Afghanistan, but were from many Middle Eastern countries (Saudi Arabia 15 of 19, Egypt, Lebanon, UAE)

39 9-11 Ten Years Later After 9-11, U.S. invaded Afghanistan to find bin- Laden- still at war there On May 2, 2011, bin Laden killed by Navy Seals Last Year, a memorial was unveiled at “Ground Zero”, where the Twin Towers fell

Why did you select this picture to represent your feelings on 9/11? In a paragraph or 2, pretend you are a teacher and you have to describe the events of 9/11 and the aftermath to your students. Make sure descriptions are in YOUR OWN WORDS!!!!

After , people came from all over the U.S. to help in anyway they can, those affected by this tragedy. It’s a day to remember those innocent people who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones. Why is this topic of service to community and giving back important? How could you be an agent of Social Change in your community-In honor of 9/11, what could you do to show service to our community. Tell me how you have been an agent of social change or have helped others in your community. Get it signed by a parent and receive 5 points to use on a later test or quiz.
