Welcome to Kazakhstan! Mangistau region
Caspian Sea – the largest isolated reservoir in the world; Balls Valley – the balls have different size and color, but mostly consist of sediment (sand and clay). It was found that, perhaps, the balls were formed as a result of electrical discharges, which appeared in the earth's crust in the areas of active tectonic faults. The breed revolved, and it "escalated” around the grain, this is how the balls were appearing. Sherkala Mountain – legendary, sacred mountain, where a fortress was guarding the caravan routes of the Silk Road in the Middle Ages. If you look at it from one side, it resembles a huge yurt. Take a look from the other side, it looks like a sleeping lion putting its head on the paws. For this reason, the mountain is called “Sherkala”, which in Turkmenish means “Lion’s mountain”. Bozzhira Valley surrounded on three sides by the amphitheater of nature vagaries. It is all white in here – canyons, peaks, tower-mountains, castle-mountains, yurt-mountains. A hallmark of Bozzhiry are two limestone peaks, named as Fangs because of its shape. Their height from the base reaches more than 200 meters. Ustirt Plateau is the bottom of a dried-up sea, which existed at these places in the beginning and the middle of Cenozoic era (21 million years ago). This is evidenced by inclusions of shells in limestone, as well as ferromanganese nodules, like billiard balls scattered around the plateau. Underground Mosque was carved in the coastal rock at the turn of the IX-X centuries. According to an ancient legend, the mosque is named after the brave warrior Shakpak-Ata, whose blade at impact strike sparks like flints. (“Shakpak“ in Kazakh means “silicon”) Welcome to Kazakhstan!
