1 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Member of ATF2 Magnet Team
Production Status of ATF2 Magnets and Possible Movements of Magnets and Movers Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Member of ATF2 Magnet Team LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

2 New Magnets Being Made for the ATF2 part 1/4
24 new FF and extraction line quads (“QEA”) been made by IHEP, Beijing and measured at KEK. 4 more being made at the moment. 3 dipoles B1,B2,B5 been designed and detailed drawing package completed and reviewed. Will be sent out for bid by magnet vendors in San Francisco Bay Area in next 2 weeks. Goal: have 3 dipoles made, measured and delivered to KEK by 31st March 2007. 3 New Magnets Being Made for the ATF2 part 2/4
Two final doublet quads: QD0, QF1,being fabricated by enlarging bore of 2 existing quads of the FFTB “QC-3” style. Remaining question I’d like agreement on today: size of enlarged bore. As explained in my Monday 9th October talk I’d like to make new bore 49mm in diameter. Will work on disassembly, EDM’ing poletips, re-assembly and magnetic measurements between now and March 2007. 4 New Magnets Being Made for the ATF2 part 3/4
Five new sextupoles are needed: 3 in the FF: SD4, SF5 and SF6 and 2 in the “final doublet” (interleaved with final 2 quads): SF1 and SD0. Considerations of available Z space and height of ATF2 beam lead us to make new and different designs for the FF and FD sextupoles. SF1 & SD0: will have (large) S-band BPMs attached to their core their bore should match the QD0/QF1 bore (= 49mm) Cores can be somewhat longer than 90mm their cores may need to fit in with a wider FFTB mover than the “QMAG” style & must put bore at 1.2m from floor LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

5 New Magnets Being Made for the ATF2 part 4/4
FF sextupoles: another new design needs to be made with these features: Bore to be same as adjacent QEA quads: 32 mm diameter Coil end shape to be compatible with a C-band BPM Core to be ~90mm long (OK with a 32 mm bore) Bottom of core to be flat, to sit directly on a “QMAG” mover T plate. Distance between core bottom and bore center to be 295mm Vertical distance between bottom of T plate (under a mover) and magnet bore center to be 541 mm. Will be over 7 months from now (at earliest) before 5 sextupoles are designed, made and measured. LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

6 Two important questions about the FD magnets for ATF2 we considered
Question #1. Will the 4 FD magnets and their S band BPMs fit on the CLIC table?- overall length is the issue . Answer #1. Yes (Okugi analysis of layout). Question #2. Can they have FFTB magnet movers under them and have centers of their apertures match the 1.2m beam height off ATF2 floor? Answer #2. A new very short support has been designed that fits under the FD quads’ movers’ T plate and puts bore center at 1.2 m (see Nicolas Geffroy presentation this workshop 11 Oct 06) LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

7 What SLAC equipment LAPP needs to thoroughly test the CLIC table
A QC3 quad: Spencer is negotiating with SABER project group at SLAC who suddenly think they might need the 3rd QC3 quad (we know where it is stored at SLAC). Could lend it to LAPP until Feb 2007, maybe longer. The QC3-style FFTB mover (=wider T plate) to go under the borrowed QC3 quad. Three other FFTB movers Electronics and cables to run the 4 movers 2 Streckeisen “STS2” sensors:Spencer to enquire at SLAC LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

Electronics & cables to control FFTB movers. Need 2 crates to control 16 movers Interface between controller and stepper motors Back and front of stepper motor resistor chassis LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

9 Use of spacer to adjust magnet height / inclination
New design for wide mover support by N. Geffroy, LAPP. With two possibilities for height adjustment 27.05 cm 5.59 cm 32.64 cm ( ) 3.05 cm Use of spacer to adjust magnet height / inclination Very accurate base plate thickness for desired magnet height. T-1 plate for QC-3, sits under FFTB mover. We have only one QC-3 T plate: for QF1 609.6 mm WIDE Need to make at least one more wide T plate for QD0. If FD sextupoles width demands it will need 2 additional wide T plates for them. 482.6mm LONG LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

Drawings of smaller T-plate that we will be using under QEAs and FF sextupoles If need wider movers: would make new T plates and use shafts, stepper motors, LVDTs etc from QMAG movers to finish the wider mover. Width 457.2mm Length 482.6mm LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production

12 Proposed Movement of old FFTB movers
Send 24 less wide movers & their electronics and cables to KEK very soon Send one wide mover and 3 less wide movers & their electronics and cables to LAPP very soon (send 3rd QC3 at same time) Keep one less wide mover at SLAC Would like a decision today on this proposal LAPP, Annecy, 11th Oct 2006 Cherrill Spencer, SLAC Status ATF2 Magnet Production
