1 Stack Sampling

2 Stack sampling data is useful for:
Assessing the health risks to the public Determining actual or potential effects on the environment Selecting actions to mitigate the hazards safely and effectively Ensuring compliance with air quality standards and permits

3 Stack Sampling Stack sampling is done to
identify airborne concentrations that could pose a toxic risk to public. evaluate the need for and type of recovery or scrubber equipment set up work zones or areas where contaminants are or are not present ensure production efficiency

4 Stack Sampling Agents of concern: Particulate Opacity Nitrogen Oxides
Carbon Monoxide Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Aldehydes Hydrocarbons(Total & Speciated) Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs)

5 Stack Sampling Agents of concern: Sulfur Compounds Acid Compounds PM10
Particle Sizing Ammonia Metals PAHs Dioxins/Furans Chromium

6 Stack Sampling To be useful stack sampling instruments must be: Rugged
Easy to operate Inherently safe Able to generate reliable and useful results

7 Stack Sampling Dry Gas Meters Instantaneous real-time monitoring
Collection filters Collection traps

8 Reliable and Useful Results
The response time, sensitivity, selectivity, accuracy and precision of an instrument are important in evaluating the reliability and usefulness of the data the instrument generates.
