2 Thesis Statement In the years following the Civil War, due to the frugality, business practices, and character of capitalists such as Carnegie, Morgan, and Rockefeller, America became an industrial powerhouse.

3 John Davison Rockefeller

4 John D. Rockefeller He was born July 8, 1839.
His parents were Eliza Davison and William Rockefeller Sr. He briefly studied bookkeeping at a community college in Cleveland, Ohio. John D. Rockefeller, who ever since he was young, was hard-working. He was America's first billionaire. His father, William Rockefeller Sr. was a travelling salesman and a con artist. He died May 23, 1937.

He was raised christian and that impacted the way he made decisions. Created techniques that reshaped the oil industry Reduced the price of oil to his consumers Caused small companies to surrender their stock to him Used what many saw as waste and used it to earn money Transportation of oil caused freight prices to sharply increase. 7 Andrew Carnegie He was born in Dunfermline, United Kingdom on november 25,1835 His parents were William and Margaret Morrison Carnegie. He had a regular education. He started in life as a cotton mill worker at a young age. He went on to become a telegraph messenger. He then went to work for the Pennsylvania railroad. quote:“New York was the first great hive of human industry among the inhabitants of which I had mingled, and the bustle and excitement of it overwhelmed me.” -carnegie He died august 11,1919

Pushed forward the production of railroads Made smart investments that made him great money He built steel plants all over the country Created news ways of making steel such as the bessemur process

9 Andrew carnegie’s downfalls
His workers ended up doing 84 hours of labor with little pay. The result of this led to many strikes at his place if business which got the pinkertons involved with the uprising strikes. The homestead strike even made things worst for Carnegie, with the riots, the wounded, and bloodshed.
