4 Rock Cycle Rock Cycle The Rock Cycle for Igneous Rocks:
Igneous means made from fire or heat. When volcanoes erupt and the liquid rock comes up to the earth's surface, then new igneous rock is made. When the rock is liquid & inside the earth, it is called magma. When the magma gets hard inside the crust, it turns into granite. Most mountains are made of granite. It cools very slowly and is very hard. The Rocks Cycle for Sedimentary Rocks: When mountains are first formed, they are tall and jagged like the Rocky Mountains on the west coast of North America. Over time (millions of years) mountains become old mountains like the Appalachian Mountains on the east coast of Canada and the United States. When mountains are old, they are rounded and much lower. What happens in the meantime is that lots of rock gets worn away due to erosion. Rain, freeze/thaw cycle, wind and running water cause the big mountains to crumble a little bit at a time. Over time, bunches and bunches and bunches of years, mountains become old mountains, kind of like the Appalachian Mountains on the east coast of the United States and Canada. You can tell when mountains are old, because they are rounded and much lower. What happens is that a bunch of rock gets worn away due to erosion. Rain, freeze/thaw cycle, wind and running water cause the bigger mountains to crumble bits at a time.

5 Rock Cycle: Part 2 Rock Cycle: Part 2
The Rock Cycle for Metamorphic Rocks: Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have changed through their lifetime. The name comes from the Greek "meta" and "morph ". Metamorphic rocks were originally Sedimentary or Igneous, but because of the movement of the earth's crust, they changed, or “Morphed”.

6 Igneous Rocks Igneous Rocks are called Fire Rocks, they can be formed only either above or below ground. When they are formed underground, they are formed by melting rock called magma, deep down in the earth they are trapped and cool and become Igneous Rocks. Igneous Rocks are also formed when volcanoes (COOL) erupt, which causes the magma to rise above the earths surface. When magma rises above the earths surface it is called lava. And then the lava cools above ground and also form into Igneous Rocks. Igneous rocks are called Fire Rocks, they can be formed only either above or below ground. When they are formed underground, they are formed by melting rock called magma, deep down in the earth they are trapped and cool and become Igneous Rocks.

7 Sedimentary Rocks For thousands, millions of years now little pieces of the earth has eroded---broken, gotten worn away by water and wind. These little pieces of the earth get themselves washed downstream. There they settle to the bottom of the lakes, oceans, and rivers. Layer after layer of eroded rock is deposited on top of one another. The layers are pressed down more, and more, and more through their time, until the bottom layers just slowly turn into rock. 8 Metamorphic Rocks Metamorphic Rocks are rocks that have umm have “morphed” into another kind of rock. These type of rocks once were Igneous or Sedimentary Rocks. How do these two types (Igneous and Sedimentary) of rocks change? The rocks are under TONS and TONS and TONS of pressure, which of course fosters the heat build up. And this causes them to change. If you examine metamorphic rock samples, you’ll find how flattened some of the grains are in the rock. Metamorphic Rocks are rocks that have umm have “morphed” into another kind of rock. 10 Summary: What I Learned!
I learned that there are a lot of different kinds of rocks, I learned that rocks can be really interestingly cool. I also learned that rocks are formed by a volcanoes because when magma gets trapped deep down in the earth it cools and becomes a type of rock called Igneous. And I learned Igneous rocks can also be formed when I learned that there are a lot of different kinds of rocks, I learned that rocks can be really interestingly cool. I also learned that rocks are formed by a volcanoes. The point is that is learned that rocks can be really cool once you take the time to sit down and actually look and read some of the facts about different kinds of rocks. So now there are two science things I actually like: Rock (of ALL kinds) and Volcanoes (Duh of ALL kinds).

11 Description Of The Rock Cycle
Rocks are constantly being formed. They get worn down and formed again. This is called the Rock Cycle. It’s like the water cycle but it takes a bunch longer. It takes thousands and millions of years for rocks to change. Rocks are divided into 3 types. And classified by how they had been formed.

12 I Couldn’t find anything else to put in there!
Needs to STOP! Needs to STOP! I Couldn’t find anything else to put in there! So I put up my picture I saved from Dosomething.org
