2 Functions of Modern Roller Coaster
Supply jobs, like operators, construction workers and designers. Raise Adrenalin Levels!!! Provide a form of entertainment Damages ear drums Terrify kids under 48” and most mothers.

3 Early Roller Coasters Roller coasters started out as ice-slides in Russia in the mid 1600’s. These were tracks made of lumber and covered with a few inches of ice. The French were the first to actually add wheels to their slides. Then, in 1817, France developed the first coasters to actually lock to the track by having wheels on either side of the track.

4 The First looping coaster was made in Frascati Gardens in Paris, France.It had a 43 foot high hill, and a 13 foot high loop. This ride was extremely tested before and human was allowed to ride it. The first US coaster wasn’t made until It was called the Mauch Chunk Switchback Railway. It was actually a rail way down a mountain used for transporting coal. In 1873, it began carrying passengers too.

5 La Marcus Adna Thompson was the first one to patent a roller coaster in the US. He is known as the father of American coasters. His first coaster was like the Russian coasters, with two parallel tracks. This coaster was patented on January first, 1887. Cyclone is the oldest running roller coaster in America. It is on Coney Island, in New York City. It is a wooden coaster, and was built in a 1927, and became a national landmark in 1991.

-Scares young children and some mothers -Provides Jobs -Costs lots of money (millions) -Raises money -Takes a long time to build -Causes Nausea -Utilizes modern technology -Require a very long testing period -Causes people to experience new feelings, like weightlessness

11 The Future of Roller Coasters
-Motion Simulators -Seats that move with a big screen -simulate the ride without moving of its area. -cheaper and require less maintenance than regular coasters. -Can take you anywhere you want. -LIM (Linear Induction Magnet) -New and still developing -replace chain lift hills -will become more advanced-not just launching but more…
