1 Karl Blossfeldt Jessica Boa

2 Create a page on Karl Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt is known for his close-up photographs of plants flowers and seeds. The main features is a white or black background and a single plant which goes from light to dark. His genre is natural forms. His photographs often have intricate detail.

3 Draw a picture of the Karl Blossfeldt shoot setup
I will use a black piece of paper to create some shadows so it has Karl’s main feature of going from light to dark. I will also use a large white or black piece of paper to create a clear strong background like his.

4 Shoot One Analysis Gradient of shadow in corner I think that my shoot went well however I think that the lightning wasn’t as good as it could be. The purpose of this shoot was to try and mimic Karl’s work and integrate that into our own style. While most of the pictures definitely have his style. I think that I need to have more contrast. I will do this by increasing the exposure. Nice contrast and rules of thirds Shows texture Too dark needs more contrast Like the way plant is “reaching out” makes it interesting Good composition but can see white paper behind Don’t follow his style Needs to be lighter(plant) to be effective Good contrast Shadow makes it interesting Nice composition and contrast Can see other plants in background Contrasts black background

5 Compare and Contrast My pictures has the key features of going from light to dark and the white background. However it doesn’t feature a single plant and I would prefer if the background was lighter. Unlike his style it doesn’t have intricate detail within the plant. I think that the plant should be more in the picture as the focal point in his pictures is the plant. His pictures also have an even balance of white and dark. My however doesn’t. For the editing I would crop this picture so that the plant is the focal point.

6 Final Pictures from Shoot 1
I cropped the image so that only the black background would show. I then used the burn tool as I thought that the foreground and the background didn’t have enough contrast. I then used the dodge tool to brighten some of the spikes on the cactus. I sharpened the plant a bit so it looked more in focus. I also then blurred the plant post so that the focal point was the cactus. The main areas that I brighten was the shadows of the plant.

7 Final Pictures from Shoot 1
I cropped the picture but I made sure that it was still mostly rectangular. Then I increased the contrast and brightness so that the background was mostly white. I changed the levels so that the plant didn’t lose it darkness

8 Planning My Next Shoot Inspiration:
I plan to take picture that are now inspired by Karl Blossfeldt and not replicating his work. I plan to take more pictures of flowers and pictures of leave based plants. I also plan to again work with different coloured background.

9 Shoot Two Analysis Cool Angle shows curving of plant
A lot of depth and shadow

10 Compare and Contrast This picture is similar to mine as they both fixate on the flowers. However mine focuses on the central blossoming part whilst he focuses on the stem. Mine also have a dark background which I thought was better as I had taken the picture with a white and black background. Similarly, mine also has a lot of depth in it . However at the tip of the flower the tones almost blurred due to similar shades.
