1 IN YOUR NOTEBOOKS (10/3/17) Possible Elevation on Point X?
Which side of Rock Mountain is steepest? What direction does this stream flow and why?

2 Doppler Effect/Big Bang Lat/Long/Polaris/Time Zones
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Topo Lab (we will finish in class) Topographic Profile Reading Unit 1 STATION Review Density Doppler Effect/Big Bang Lat/Long/Polaris/Time Zones Topography (gradient and profile) 4 QUESTION Short Answer 2 Question Multiple Choice (PART OF UNIT 1 TEST) UNIT 1 (REST OF TEST – 23 QUESITONS) REVIEW UNIT 1 TEST CORRECTIONS START UNIT 1 PRE ASSESSMENT FOR UNIT 1

3 LAW HILL (CONTOUR LINES CLOSE TOGETHER)
Do Now … Name the hill that is the steepest. LAW HILL (CONTOUR LINES CLOSE TOGETHER) What direction the black river/red creek is flowing? SouthWest or WEST because the stream flows OPOSITE the Point of the “V” Which hill would she see the best view (highest point)? What is a possible elevation of that hill? LAW HILL (MOST CONTOUR LINES TO THE TOP). 345 feet

4 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE MAPS?
Other than one image showing the read world and the other image showing a map… WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE MAPS? “Real World” Contour Map

5 Topographic Maps Two dimensional model of the Earth’s surface (topographic maps represent a 3-D world). They are also known as contour maps.

9 Vocabulary Contour Line –
- line on a map that connects points of EQUAL elevation. - show elevation and shape of the land Relief – Difference between high and low elevations

10 Topographic Maps Contour Interval –
difference in elevation between each line. Contour interval = 20 feet 580 560 540 520

11 Topographic Maps Index Contour – Usually every 5th line is printed darker and has an elevation printed on it.

12 Map Scales Indicates the distance on the map compared to distance in the real world Graphical - by a line divided into equal parts and marked in units of length.

13 TODAY’S LAB Take one of the play-do colors and mold it to the shape of the outer most contour line of the topographic map Then, take the second layer of the play-do and mold that into the shape of the second outer contour-line Complete this step for the 5 other contour lines Stack the pieces on top of each other (smallest shape at the top) There’s your mountain! YAY. Using the blue colored play-do, create your stream. Place the stream on the mountain in the correct location
