1 What can you model with a Quadratic Function?
Unit 3 - Chapter Task

2 How to get a Model of a real object.
Determine how many parabola’s there are in the image. There is one parabola in this image. Draw a scale on the image that makes sense.

3 How to get a Model of a real object.
Determine how many parabola’s there are in the image. There is one parabola in this image. Draw a scale on the image that makes sense. It makes it easier if the origin is also a root. Make sure to choose values that are representative of the situation. In this case the arch is in St. Louis “The Gateway Arch”

4 How to get a Model of a real object.
The “Gateway arch” is 292 m high. The “Gateway arch “ Is 182 m wide. To determine an equation we can use the zeros in the factored form and use the vertex as a point.

5 Vertex (91, 292) Zeroes (0,0) & (182,0)

6 Verify with the TI-83 Calculator
Get 7 or 8 points from the graph. Use Quadratic Regression to determine the curve of best fit.
