3 Thesis… The modern day “slut” has been turned into a positive image to women around the world who are sexually forward and active, helping them to embrace this part of themselves and put an end to slut shaming and the rape culture. Amber Rose, a mother, model and entrepreneur, is the face behind the movement and has changed the way many people view these women and how these women view themselves.

4 What is the modern day slut?
The modern day slut is becoming a new sensation among women across the world. Amber Rose has started a new wave empowering women to feel good about their sexuality and not be ashamed or labeled negatively because of how much sex they have or the clothes they choose to wear. Amber Rose is attempting to put a positive spin on certain words that are meant to degrade women, like the words bitch, slut, whore, and hoe. Amber Rose also ties in the rape culture and how many women are blamed because they wear revealing clothes. She says that no matter what a woman wears she is not consenting to sex and even if she is a “slut” that does not mean it is okay to rape her. The modern day slut is defined as a woman who has a lot of sex and wears revealing clothes. Her characteristics would include being single, have a lot of sex with a lot of different men, wearing little clothing, and embracing it all. Slut shaming: the action or fact of stigmatizing a woman for engaging in behavior judged to be promiscuous or sexually provocative

5 Amber Rose SlutWalk The Amber Rose SlutWalk’s mission is “To deliver a flawlessly executed event geared toward raising awareness about sexual injustice and gender inequality. The Amber Rose SlutWalk aims to impact and uplift while shifting the paradigm of rape culture. The event provides a safe, all-inclusive space to entertain, educate and empower.” This started after an incident in Toronto in 2011 when a cop said to a group of college girls that if they didn’t want to get raped, they shouldn’t dress like sluts. “There is no recipe for what someone involved in the Amber Rose SlutWalk needs to look like, you DO NOT need to come from an activist background or know anything about these issues.” “The only requirement is that you be inspired by your own passion to do something about the issues that plague our generation. Our mission is serious but this day of dressing up, strutting your stuff and standing up for gender equality is filled with fun, laughter and a community in support of a tremendous cause. It is about self-expression, unity, shedding stereotypes and supporting one another.”

6 How this has helped women…
After Amber Rose started this SlutWalk, women all over the world have felt empowered and have been able to be themselves without having the feeling of being constantly judged, because they now know that someone has their back. Women can finally feel comfortable in their skin and won’t let a man’s ignorance effect them anymore. Women should no longer feel ashamed.

8 What’s a movement without its haters?
Although this movement is only meant to empower women, send nothing but positive vibes, and end rape culture, there are people who critique it because they feel like it is inappropriate. People say ladies shouldn’t dress that way, don’t give an excuse to these sluts, if you didn’t dress that way, you wouldn’t get raped, and the list of insults and complaints goes on. The people that critique this movement are ignorant and don’t actually understand what it is all about.

9 History of the “slut” Throughout history, women have gradually become more open about their sex life and revealing and society has somewhat accepted it. Women have been dressing “inappropriately” and have been having sex forever now, but the modern day slut is more proud and embraces it more than in the past.

10 1900’s slut vs 2000’s slut The major difference in the modern day slut and the historical slut is that today they are embracing their beauty more and do not care who has something to say about it or what they have to say about it. Another major difference is the movement to end slut shaming and the rape culture. Some women are only a part of this movement for those specific reasons, not because they feel like they are a slut and should be proud, but because they know rape is wrong and it is even more wrong to blame the victim. So in order to help such a worthy cause, they join this movement.
