1 For Labs And Proving Grounds
Lifesaving Rules, Common Safety Rules & Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) GM is taking the next critical steps in transforming our safety culture. Today I’ll be reviewing our Lifesaving Rules and Personal Protective Equipment rules. Both will become effective on Jan. 1, 2018. We Can Do More To Prevent Injuries For Labs And Proving Grounds

2 Safety Is Everybody’s Concern
UAW-GM Lifesaving Rules  These rules have been developed in response to the fatalities that have occurred at our sites since 2000.  Personal Protective Equipment Rules Focus on the most common injuries. Create consistency at our sites across the globe.  Relatively simple steps that can help eliminate life-altering injuries. 2016 24,000 injuries globally 2016 We will likely record about 24,000 injuries globally GM recorded approximately 24,000 injuries globally last year. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have about the same number of injuries again this year.  That is unacceptable.  A fair question to ask would be: “What are we doing differently?”  These changes are some of the ways we will be working  differently to help drive to our goal of zero injuries.   GM Lifesaving Rules.  These rules have been developed in response to the fatalities that have occurred at our sites since 2000.  Nothing is more important than these actions.  Make them known to your teams and visible at your sites. Personal Protective Equipment Rules.  These rules focus on the most common injuries at our sites. They’ll create consistency at our sites across the globe.  In many instances, these requirements are relatively simple steps we can take that will greatly reduce the potential for life-altering injuries for people.

3 UAW-GM Lifesaving Rules
New PPT and Lifesaving Rules 10/11/2017 UAW-GM Lifesaving Rules We always use required fall hazard/prevention controls when working at heights. We always wear a seat belt. We always ensure hazardous energies are isolated or controlled when exposed to hazardous energy or working on equipment. We never work on electrical equipment unless qualified and always use the appropriate protective equipment and tools. We never enter a confined space without following proper entry procedures. We never defeat, bypass, remove or render ineffective any safety device without authorization. Here are the GM Lifesaving Rules that apply at all of our global sites. These rules have been developed in response to the fatalities that have occurred. Nothing is more important than these actions. We ALWAYS: Use required fall hazard/prevention controls when working at heights. Wear a seat belt. Ensure hazardous energies are isolated or controlled when exposed to hazardous energy or working on equipment. We NEVER: Work on electrical equipment unless qualified, and always use appropriate protective equipment and tools. Enter a confined space without following proper entry procedures. Defeat, bypass, remove or render ineffective any safety device without authorization.

4 New PPT and Lifesaving Rules
10/11/2017 PPE Requirements Manufacturing BODY & STAMPING Safety Glasses upon entering manufacturing floor Bump Caps required when working under a vehicle, in a robot cell, or in a stamping press Substantial Footwear Cut Resistant Sleeves wall-to-wall, no exposed skin STAMPING CASTING, BODY, STAMPING CASTING FACILITIES CONSTRUCTION AREA Here is the complete list of PPE rules. Adhering to these rules will focus on some of the most common injuries at our sites. Three will be required at all of our global manufacturing sites: Safety glasses upon entering the manufacturing floor and in every area of the operation (not in break rooms or enclosed office areas.) Substantial footwear on the manufacturing floor and in every area of the operation Bump caps when working under a vehicle, in a robot cell, or in a stamping press There are additional rules that address specific hazards in Body, Casting, Stamping and other areas. Your regular work site may not require all of these. When visiting other GM and non-GM work sites, be sure to follow these rules when they apply. Hearing protection wall-to-wall Long Pants required, no exposed skin Safety Shoes/Boots Safety Glasses, Hard Hat, High Visibility Vest and Appropriate Footwear When visiting other GM and non-GM work sites, be sure to follow these rules when they apply.

5 New PPT and Lifesaving Rules
10/11/2017 The Lifesaving Rules and the new PPE rules will impact everyone who works at or visits our Manufacturing sites, labs, proving grounds and offices. Although the policy specifically addresses GM sites, it also applies to GM employees working offsite or remotely. That includes visiting suppliers, when you’re at conferences or training, at a show, a dealership, etc. The GM-wide guidelines apply in “office-like” settings, the additional Manufacturing and Warehouse guidelines would apply on the floor at a supplier, in the garage at a dealership, in a warehouse, etc. (Insert additional details of how these requirements will impact your audience.)
