2 Little Faith & Great Faith

3 Facts About Faith Hebrews 11:1-3 Faith is based on evidence
Faith is based on knowledge (Rom. 10:17) Faith is necessary to please God Faith is not sight (I Peter 1:8) Faith must be active (James 2:26)

4 Disciples’ Anxiety (Luke 12:22-30
Their deficient faith led them to worry about things God will provide God tells us to put our trust in him (Psa. 9:10) God tells us to seek spiritual things first, and the physical needs will be provided (Matt. 6:33) In order for our faith to grow from little to great, we have to keep our anxiety under control

5 Disciples’ Fear (Matt. 8:23-27)
They had just witnessed Jesus healing the sick and demon-possessed (8:16-17) They knew that God was with Jesus, but their faith wasn’t strong enough to be tested We must have faith that Jesus can calm the “storms of life” (John 16:33; I John 5:4)

6 Peter Sinks (Matt. 14:22-36) He showed incredible faith at first
He took his eyes off of Jesus and got overwhelmed We have to maintain our faith – don’t let “winds and waves” distract – keep walking (Heb. 12:1-2)

7 Disciples Misunderstood (Matt. 16:5-12)
Weak faith caused them to miss the spiritual meaning Weak faith may cause us to miss the powerful, spiritual truths in God’s word We may be so focused on what we can see that we misinterpret spiritual things as physical (I Cor. 2:12-14)

8 Syrophoenician Woman (Matt. 15:21-28)
She had some knowledge about Jesus Jesus challenged her She overcame every obstacle, confident that Jesus was able to do what she needed (Philip. 4:13)

9 Centurion (Luke 7:1-10) Believed that Jesus’ power was not limited
Acknowledged his own unworthiness Illustrated a good understanding of Jesus’ authority (Matt. 7:7) As he could send soldiers by his word, Christ could heal by his word

10 How Great is Your Faith? We begin with a little, we have weaknesses, but we must get better We’re going to need a strong, firm faith to survive the challenges of life Resisting Satan requires a “firm” faith (I Peter 5:9) Salvation requires a proven faith (I Peter 1:6-7) “Lord, increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5) Is your faith growing? (II Thess. 1:3)
