2 S = Specific Clearly defined - State in Concrete Terms
Lacey’s Example Current Goal SPECIFIC Goal I will get in shape. I will reduce my weight.

3 M = Measurable Determine a amount or event so you will know that the goal has been met. Lacey’s Example Current Goal MEASURABLE Goal I will reduce my weight. I will reduce my weight by 25 pounds.

4 A = Attainable Create plan outlining exactly how the goal can be reached Lacey’s Example Current Goal ATTAINABLE Goal I will reduce my weight by 25 pounds. I will reduce my weight by 25 pounds by going to the gym three times a week and not eating any desserts.

5 R = Realistic Are you willing to do what it takes to achieve the Goals. Lacey’s Example Current Goal REALISTIC Goal Lacey has determined that She has time to visit the gym and has sufficient will power to give up desserts. I will reduce my weight by 25 pounds by going to the gym three times a week and not eating any desserts.

6 T = Time Bound Specifically state when the goal will be reached
Lacey’s Example Current Goal TIME BOUND Goal I will reduce my weight by 25 pounds by going to the gym three times a week and not eating any desserts. I will reduce my weight by 25 pounds in the next 12 weeks by going to the gym three times a week and not eating any desserts.
