7 Reflection and Connection
Write a statement on an index card regarding professional relationship building Pass your card to the facilitator and then move to the middle of the room One side of the room will stand for “Agree” and the other side of the room will stand for “Disagree” As each statement is read, explore your thoughts and feelings and choose an area of the room to stand in (Agree or Disagree) Provide each participant with an index card. Depending on the size of the group, you may want to provide more than one card to each person to offer several example statements. Collect all of the index cards from the participants. Identify one side of the room as “Agree” and the other as “Disagree” Read each statement aloud. Ask participants to explore their thoughts and choose an area of the room to stand in. Following this activity, discuss the difference between preference, attitude, value, feeling, belief and habit Art of MATCH Module 5- slide handout

Develop trust and rapport Listen Facilitate self-reflection Effective Feedback – both MATCH Professional and Client Key to starting the relationship – building rapport and trust – one of the key components to this is listening and demonstrating a nonjudgmental attitude. 17 Setting Your Intention: Collaborative Professional Relationships
When you set an intention, you are more likely to make choices that support it – in what you do, in what you think “Intentions create an integrated state of priming, a gearing up of our neural system to be in the mode of that specific intention: we can be readying to receive, to sense, to focus, to behave in a certain manner.” (Daniel Siegel, The Mindful Brain) As you consider ways of getting to know and being with your client, one strategy that can support your efforts is setting an intention. Review the points noted on the slide. An intention is a statement about how you want to be or what you want to get out of the day, a particular experience, etc. It describes an aspiration for how you might think, feel, engage with others or engage in your learning so that you can be your best self. An intention can be, “I want to be fully present.” It could be, “I want to ask hard questions” because you typically shy away from doing that. After reading the quote from Daniel Siegel, share that neuroscience supports setting intentions and that it primes our mind to notice the actions, opportunities, people and things that can bring about our intention for us. 18 Setting Your Intention: Collaborative Professional Relationships
Can help you get focused Can help you notice your thoughts and control your emotions around an experience Can help how you enter into conversations Can help you understand how you are experiencing an interaction Review the points on the slide. Share with participants that some people see key components that help support a successful collaborative professional relationship: relationship + purpose + intention. Relationship = how two people connect and interact Purpose = why the relationship exists Intention = how the MATCH professional is committed to acting in the relationship and using tools effectively to support growth and learning Art of MATCH Module 5- slide handout

“For me, setting intentions is a power move. It’s how I bring clarity, meaning and purpose to my day, my meetings, a conference call and even daily conversations. Setting intentions helps you get clear on why you’re doing something (clarity), why it’s important to you (meaning) and how it moves you closer to your values (purpose).” -Brene Brown Date, time and location of next module: Art of MATCH Module 5- slide handout
