3 INTRODUCTION Regional Rural Bank Act 1976 sowed the
seeds of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank. RRB Act 1976 brought five regional rural banks into existence in Assam. On 12th January, 2006 AGVB was established by the amalgamation of four out of five regional rural banks.

4 Banks amalgamated were –
Pragjyotish Gaonlia Bank (Estd ), Lakhimi Gaonlia Bank (Estd ),  Cachar Gramin Bank (Estd ) Subansiri Gaonlia Bank (Estd ).

5 OBJECTIVES Better customer service from better infrastructure, branch computerization, pool of experienced work force, unified publicity and marketing efforts. Reaping economies of scale with larger area of operation, enhanced credit exposure limits. Opportunities for diverse banking activities, leading to higher business growth.

Grouping of activities are done on the basis of functions such as IT, Vigilance, Accounting, R&D, Inspection & Audit. Follows the principle of occupational specialization. Tight control at the top.

Grouping of activities is done on the basis of Geographical location. Responsibilities are given to the middle level. Emphasize on local market.

In an AGVB branch this departmentation is followed. Grouping of activities on the basis of customer interest. Example: - Fixed Deposit schemes, Loan Schemes

13 SWOT ANALYSIS Highest no of Branches covered by any RRB in India
STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES Highest no of Branches covered by any RRB in India It’s an RRB Facilities are less in comparison to the PSBs Still 60%-65% of Assam rural population is not at par with Banking habit Potential players are already in the market viz. SBI, PNB, ICICI, UBI etc. OPPORTUNITIES THREATS

14 CENTRALIZATION OR DECENTRALIZATION ???

15 CENTRALIZATION OR DECENTRALIZATION ??? Mixture of both Centralization and Decentralization Though the authority is been delegated to even at the extreme lower level. But yet a centralized control is always there.
