17 Ways you can Help Let your child know that reading and writing matter, that adults do these things too, that these are things worth dedicating time to and working to get better at! Encourage your child to carry a small notebook with them, paying attention to details and thinking, “I could write a true story about this.” Think of a strong feeling, and then list “small moment” stories pertaining to that feeling. Choose one to write about. Think of the stories that your family tells and retells. Write about one of those. Think of a subject, or a person, place, or thing that matters to you, then list small moments you remember. Choose one to sketch and then write the accompanying story.

18 Behavior Expectations
1 Warning- change behavior 2 Warnings- take a break 3 Warnings- buddy room (Communication with parents can happen at any level, depending upon situation)

19 Homework Routine Homework: Your child will use a WEEKLY HOMEWORK LOG to write down daily assignments. PLEASE SIGN YOUR CHILD’S LOG each night. If your child goes to homework club, then the supervisor there may sign your child’s log. Spelling Homework: Each week, students will have about 20 grade appropriate spelling words. Monday’s homework lets students be “hands-on” with their words. They will cut, sort, and record their words on a pre-made chart. This chart is turned in Tuesday. The remaining days of the week students will have a packet of spelling activities. Most weeks, the packet will include 4-5 spelling practice sheets. Students will get to choose how they practice and are expected to complete three of the sheets each week. The packet is turned in and collected on Friday. Many students have already asked if they can do more than the required three sheets… Of course! This is wonderful! Monday: cut, sort words into groups, record on chart (turn in on Tuesday for a check ) Tuesday-Thursday: complete at least three of the spelling sheets sent home in the packet Friday: spelling quiz (spelling packets collected) **Please continue reading every day for 20 minutes**
