1 National and International Efforts worth knowing about
Rebecca Crowley Jacobson, MD, MS Department of Biomedical Informatics Institute for Personalized Medicine University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute

2 Outline TCGA – done/Adrian Personalized Medicine Initiative
Cancer Moonshot GA4GH

3 Precision Medicine Initiative
$215M initial investment (2016)

4 The Cohort 1 million Americans Prospective
Participant focused, highly interactive Individual volunteers Enrollment Centers (Pitt applied) Eric Dishman, Director

5 Purpose of the Cohort develop ways to measure risk for a range of diseases based on environmental exposures, genetic factors and interactions between the two; identify the causes of individual differences in response to commonly used drugs (commonly referred to as pharmacogenomics); discover biological markers that signal increased or decreased risk of developing common diseases; use mobile health (mHealth) technologies to correlate activity, physiological measures and environmental exposures with health outcomes; develop new disease classifications and relationships; empower study participants with data and information to improve their own health; and create a platform to enable trials of targeted therapies. Adapted from the NIH website

6 Participants volunteer to share core data including their electronic health records, health survey information, and mobile health data on lifestyle habits and environmental exposures. undergo a standard baseline exam for vital signs, medication assessment, and past medical history, and provide a blood sample.

7 Working on essential framework
Governance and Trust Data Security
