JOURNALS Write your name in marker on the front of your SPIRAL notebook. Journals will stay in the classroom!

2 Directions: Write these rules down on the inside of the front cover.
1. Every entry should have a title and a date. 2. Do not use this notebook for any other class! 3. Don’t tear out any pages…ever! 4. Just write. Keep your hand moving. You can’t do it wrong unless you do not write or you quit early! 5. Experiment with spelling, punctuation and grammar. 6. These are not final copies. They are not even rough drafts. Your stories are a type of pre-writing. 7. You are free to write the “worst junk in America” - Natalie Goldburg. 8. You may use a pen(any legible color is fine), or pencil.

3 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please know that your entries WILL be read. There are 3 ways that your writing will be shared: Volunteering to read Peer reading Names drawn * When your name is drawn, you can read as little or as much as you’re comfortable with, HOWEVER, if you choose to read 1 sentence, it must be a well-written sentence. “I went to school today.” does NOT count. IF this is the case, then to get full credit, you’ll need to read your entire entry.

4 The first 3 pages (front & back) of your journal are used for listing your WRITING TOPICS.
Label the top of those pages WRITING TOPICS

5 When you write your entries, you will only write on ONE side of the paper.
Make an “X” on the 1st line on the back of each page. This will be a good reminder to NOT write on the back of the page. Do this quickly!
