2 Israel’s plan for their future was not the same as God’s plan

3 Israel’s plan for their future was not the same as God’s plan
1. Past wandering from God’s plan: Daniel 9:5: “we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.” Daniel 9:6: “We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.”

4 Israel’s plan for their future was not the same as God’s plan
Past wandering from God’s plan: Current wandering from God’s plan: Daniel 9:13: “As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us; yet we have not entreated the favor of the Lord our God, turning from our iniquities and gaining insight by your truth.”

5 Israel’s plan for their future was not the same as God’s plan
The nature of God’s plan: to graciously rescue Israel from slavery in Egypt and provide for them. Exodus 23:32: “You shall make no covenant with them [foreign kingdoms] and their gods.”

6 Israel’s plan for their future was not the same as God’s plan
Trusting other gods: Jeremiah 32:33-35: “33 They have turned to me their back and not their face. And though I have taught them persistently, they have not listened to receive instruction. 34 They set up their abominations in the house that is called by my name, to defile it. 35 They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”

7 Israel’s plan for their future was not the same as God’s plan
Trusting human kings/kingdoms: Saul Isaiah 31:1 “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!”

8 We must confess Daniel confessed Israel’s sins to God
Daniel 9:3-4: “3 Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. 4 I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession….”

9 We must confess We all likely have some idolatry to confess:
(The corporate nature of idolatry) Daniel 9:6: “6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.”

10 We must confess We all likely have some idolatry to confess:
(The corporate nature of idolatry) Jeremiah 7:18: “18 The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven. And they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.”

11 We must repent To confess is to acknowledge and own your sin.
To repent is to turn. Daniel 9:3: “Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.”

12 We must repent Repentance is possible because of God’s grace.
God’s grace was the foundation of Israel’s relationship with God. Daniel 9:4: “4 I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments….’”

13 We must repent Repentance is possible because of God’s grace.
God’s grace is the foundation for Israel repenting and turning back to him. Daniel 9:18b: “For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy.”

14 We must repent Daniel 9:1-3: “1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, by descent a Mede, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years. 3 Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.”

15 God’s plan is the gospel

16 God’s plan is the gospel
1 Corinthians 2:1-2: “1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
