3 Using the Graphing Calculator
Plot points Insert values from a table Graph a single function equation Graph an inequality Graph a system of equations or inequalities Set domain/range Identify key features of your graph Intercepts Maximum/Minimum Other points on the graph Domain and range Points of intersection Vertex Turning points Set grid settings and graph settings. How do you want your graph to look?

4 Using Sliders Have your students explore with “sliders” to build a strong understanding of functions and key features of the graph Know your parent functions and general form of equations See “cheat sheet” To add a slider, type a letter where you might normally see a number E.g. Instead of a specific linear function like y = 3x +4, use y = mx +b and add sliders for m and b. You can now “slide” m and b and witness the effects on the graph. Add movable points, shifting lines, and dancing curves. Set parameters for the sliders Provide opportunities for students to explore with sliders as a way to understand the function. For example: How does changing the slope effect the graph? How does changing the y-intercept effect the graph? If you want to make your line steeper, what should you do?

5 Using Sliders to Identify a Function
Using sliders, find a function to model the picture: MS & Math 1 (Linear): Math 1 or Math 2 (Exponential): Math 2 (Quadratic): Math 3 (Choose functions):

6 Integrating art, mathematics, and technology
desmos.com/art Explore some desmos artwork Practice! Find an image online, save it to your computer, and upload it to Desmos. Students can create their own artwork (e.g. in Google Drawing), upload it to Desmos, and outline it using functions.
