Play other powers off on each other Get a good deal! Britain: Balance of power on the Euro. Continent End French military threat Strengthen Italian & German states Russia: Control more of Poland = increase of “pan Slavism” Create a “Holy Alliance” of Christian leaders to suppress future revolutions Prussia: Unify the German Confederation Keep French power in check Regain lost Polish territory & Saxony Austria: Roll back the clock to 1792 Contain nationalism, it had a multi-ethnic empire! Control the German Confederation

7 There were also waves of revolution in the 1820s & 1830.

8 Long Term Results No wars among the 5 Great Powers for 40 years
No major wars among the Great Powers until WWI almost 100 years baby! Continued Revolutions The “isms” not contained!
