Archaea The Three Domains Archaea- Live in extreme environments, like hot springs; DNA and cell walls are different from bacteria; prokaryotic (no nucleus). It only has one Kingdom, Kingdom Archaea. Bacteria- DNA and cell walls are different from archaea; prokaryotic (no nucleus). It only has one Kingdom, Kingdom Bacteria. Eukarya- Cell with a nucleus (eukaryotic).

Kingdoms of Eukarya Animalia- Multicellular; no cell walls; often move; heterotrophs Plantae- Multicellular; use photosynthesis; cannot move; have cellulose; autotrophs Fungi- Do not move or photosynthesize; reproduce by spores; break down matter from their environment; Ex. Mushrooms, Molds, Yeasts Protista- simple eukaryotes, often only have a single cell; fungi, plants, and animals evolved from them; examples: algae, slime mold, Amoeba, Paramecium

The Major Animal Phyla There are many more phyla than kingdoms. In Kingdom Animalia alone, there are over 30 phyla.

The Major Animal Phyla Annelida- segmented worms, bilateral symmetry; earthworms, leeches Arthropoda- jointed legs; exoskeletons; bilateral symmetry; insects, spiders, scorpions, crabs, centipedes Chordata- all vertebrates, bilateral symmetry; amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles Cnidaria- radial symmetry; jellyfish Echinodermata- radial symmetry; starfish

The Major Animal Phyla Mollusca- have covering called a mantle that often makes a shell; clams, oysters, octopi, squids Nematoda- nematodes or roundworms Platyhelminthes- flatworms Porifera- asymmetrical; sponges
