2 Vertebral Column AKA spine or backbone. Bone type: Function: Irregular
26 Function: Posture Attachment for many muscles Protects spinal cord.

3 Vertebral Column The way our spine is made limits how much we can bend forward and backward. Some people are more flexible than others.

4 Vertebrae One round drum shaped body with three wing-like projections.
Held together by bands of ligaments. Between each body is an intervertebral disc. Hole in the middle of each vertebra for the spinal cord.

7 Vertebral Column Divided into regions: Cervical Region Thoracic Region
C1 to C7. Supports the head and neck. Thoracic Region T1 to T12. Rigid. Support the ribs.

8 Vertebral Column Lumbar Region Sacrum Coccyx L1 to L5.
Largest bones of the spine. Carries most of the body mass. Very mobile. Sacrum Transfers body weight to the pelvis. Coccyx No significant function.
