1 LECTURE 1 CHAPTER 11 HEAT

2 EQUPMENTS REQUIRED BEFORE START OF LECTURE
BOOK (WITH THE PARTICULAR CHAPTER OPENED) ROUGH REGISTER PEN & CALCULATOR

3 TOPICS TO BE COVERED Heat (as an energy) Temperature Thermal Expansion
Internal energy Heat energy Temperature Relation b/w Celsius & Fahrenheit Scales Thermal Expansion Linear expansion (theory + derivation) Volumetric Expansion (theory + derivation) Prove β=3α (Coefficient of Cubical Expansion of Solid Substance is Thrice of its Coefficient of Linear Expansion) Gas laws (theory + Derivations) Boyles Law Charles Law General Gas Equation Absolute Zero

4 Internal Energy: is the energy contained in a body
Internal Energy: is the energy contained in a body. It is the sum of all types of energies possessed by a body. Heat Energy: Heat is that internal energy that transfers from one object to another object due to the temperature difference between them.

7 Thermal Expansion: Thermal means heat
Thermal Expansion: Thermal means heat. The increase in size of the substance when heated is called thermal expansion. There are two types of thermal expansion. Linear thermal expansion Volumetric thermal expansion

8 Linear Expansion: The increase in the length of a substance on heating is called Linear expansion
Volumetric Expansion: The increase in the volume of a substance on heating is called volumetric expansion.

11 Boyles Law: For a given mass of a gas, the volume of a gas in inversely proportional to the pressure of the gas if temperature is kept constant. Charles law: For a given mass of a gas, the volume of a gas in directly proportional to the absolute temperature of the gas if pressure is kept constant.
