1 Standard Form 4.4

2 Standard Form of a linear equation
Ax + By = C A, B, and C must be integers (no fractions or decimals) A ≥0 (not negative) A and B cannot both be 0 Note: All linear equations can be written in standard form

3 Different Forms of Linear Equations
Standard: Ax + By = C Point Slope: 𝑦− 𝑦 1 =𝑚(𝑥− 𝑥 1 ) Slope Intercept: y = mx + b Vertical Line: x = b Horizontal Line: y = a

4 Write an Equation in standard form
1: Get x and y on one side and all constants on the other 2: Multiply to eliminate all Fractions 3: Make sure that A is not negative

5 Write in Standard Form: Examples
𝑦=−8𝑥− 𝑦=4𝑥+6

6 Example 𝑦=− 3 5 𝑥− 𝑦= 5 4 𝑥− 3 8

7 Write the equation in point slope form then rewrite it in standard form
Through (-1,-5) with a slope of -8

8 Write the equation in point slope form then rewrite it in standard form
Through (-5,4) and through (-3,-5)

9 Write the equation in slope intercept form then rewrite it in standard form
Through (2,5) with a slope of 7

10 Write the equation in slope intercept form then rewrite it in standard form
Through (-5,-2) and through (4,4)

11 Write the equation of the vertical line and the horizontal line which passes through the point

12 Homework Pg 254 # 1-3, odd
