1 National Survey of Student Engagement
What is NSSE ? National Survey of Student Engagement Survey of all first- and final-year students to gather information about the degree to which students are involved in various activities that research has shown contribute to engagement, success, and persistence

2 Four engagement indicators:
Academic challenge, Learning with peers, Experiences with faculty, and The campus environment.

3 High-impact practices
Being part of a learning community or some other formal program where groups of students take two or more classes together Taking courses that include a community-based project (service-learning) Working with a faculty member on a research project Internships, co-ops, field experiences, student teaching, or clinical placements Studying abroad Undertaking a culminating senior experience (like capstone courses, senior project or thesis, comprehensive exam, portfolio, etc.)

4 Why Complete NSSE? An opportunity for your voices to be heard loud and clear about your experiences here – what happens in your classes and beyond, what engages you deeply (and what not so much), what works well, and what needs improving. Higher response rates make it possible to divide out the information Comparative information for that discipline, from other Ontario universities. The data also matter to the institution because it’s used in public comparisons (like Maclean’s) The data may soon be used in determining institutional funding levels – so getting full and accurate data is all the more important

5 What did we learn from previous NSSE?

6 Why is this information useful?
Information from past rounds fed into things like: new campus buildings with more student meeting and study spaces expanding peer mentorship programs more support for undergraduate research opportunities on campus higher level of service learning strong connections with instructors in the classroom and beyond

7 How to Complete NSSE? Eligible students will be contacted by and through their Blackboard sites starting February 1 Will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card for participating (within a week of completing the survey).

8 Make UWindsor’s stories matter in 2017 by filling out your survey!
