3 Evictions: Over 250,000 people forcefully removed from their homes
Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre most affected Rumours Brazilian politicians used the event to clear out and reclaim slums Property rights of the poor not recognized  - Rumours cause political issues --> lack of trust, uncertainty in already struggling community - 11 million in slums -Property rights mean the poor have no protection against evictions

4 Debt: Total costs of debt have totaled up to between $12 and $14 billion Most expensive World Cup since the competition began over 84 years ago Partially due to the 12 Stadiums they built, despite FIFA only requiring a minimum of 8 -Debt could lead to an increase in taxes for a community who did not want the tournament anyway -Unessecary costs could have been spent elsewhere

5 Distrust in Police: Demonstrations and protests against the finances spent lead to police brutality - -> Stun grenades and tear gas 600 masked protestors destroyed streets of Brazil trying to reach the stadium in Sao Paulo on the tournaments opening day. 6 confirmed injuries, including foreign journalists. 61% of Brazilians unhappy with Brazil hosting the event - Protests lead to violence and riots  -Foreign journalist shows impact of  issues on global scale

6 The Impact on Children:
Displacements, violence, child labor UNICEF: 3 million year old's victims of child labor Inspired children to play football but strengthened child labor industries  - More children living on the streets and increase in desperation --> do anything for money or food

7 Problems with Infrastructure:
Unfinished overpass collapse caused 2 deaths Politicians completed 10 out of 56 promised projects Lack of time to complete stadiums lead to neglect of proper safety precautions: at least 8 deaths of construction workers  -Distrust in politicians, already corruption in Brazil which still go on today - Benefit of providing jobs lost due to deaths

8 Social Unrest #NotGoingToBrazil -->  Protesting the high costs and government Upset that the money could have been used to fight poverty FIFA GO HOME  "It's clear that politically speaking, the money spent to build the stadiums was a lot, and in some cases was more than it should have been," Pelé reportedly said, "Some of this money could have been invested in schools, in hospitals ... Brazil needs it. That's clear."
