Alive in the Spirit Symposium
Gathering Prayer

Altar of the Earth written by Luke Edwards for the Alive in the Spirit Symposium
Broken and shattered – fear soaked and battered Tongue-tied and special – crushed and divided On the altar of the earth – we will come and lay it down On the altar of the earth – we will come and be turned ‘round Alone and indifferent – blinded by preference Make me your vessel, I’m up for the wrestle
3
All of the anger – all the pain
All the hurt, the pride and shame All the hatred, our arrogance and rage All our twisted, wicked ways Make me new, make me new, make me new, make me new My neighbour is the sun, my neighbour is the rain My neighbour is the droughts and flooding rains The rivers as they run – the mountains as they rise The ever growing haze of purple sky The fishes of the deep, the eagle as it swoons
4
The supernova’d star and cresecent moon
The majesty of gum, caressing of the breeze Fragility of earth and wave and sea All that I am, all that we are Dancing in union near and far Lay it down, Lay it down, Lay it down, Lay it down On the altar of the earth, On the altar of the earth, On the altar of the earth, we will come and We lay it down.

The Creed of Edmund’s People
We believe the God-fire burning in our hearts can transform both ourselves and our world. We believe we are called by God to a deep personal relationship with Jesus, the lover of all creation. We believe we are called to be good news people.
6
We believe we are called to live in interdependence with all of creation. We believe we are called to keep our hearts and minds open and attentive to God's will. We believe we are called to witness by prophetic action to our option to the poor, the oppressed, and people at the margins. We believe we are called to immerse ourselves in the culture in which we live and work.
7
We believe in community which is prayerful, inclusive and welcoming
We believe in community which is prayerful, inclusive and welcoming. We believe our internationality is a witness to a search for global unity. We believe it is in facing our own fragility that we can accompany others in theirs.
8
We believe that in sharing eucharist and reconciliation we are drawn beyond ourselves to the mystery of God. We believe others share the charism of Edmund, and are one with us in living it out. We hear the call to live justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with our God. Amen.
