1 iEARN Project Daffodils and Tulips
Primary school Antona Aškerca Rimske Toplice, Branch school Zidani Most, Slovenia 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade and a teacher Mirica Štaut

2 First day of planting 40 bulbs of tulips were planted on 24th November in a cut barrel. We had three different species of bulbs.  The air temperature was 5°C.

4 Investigative question
Is the length of flowering dependent on the species of a tulip? Will all the flower bulbs sprout? Hypothesis We predict that the species of a tulip affects on the length of flowering and that the shorter tulips will flower earlier. Some of the bulbs will not sprout.

5 Sprouting time It was sunny Monday, 11th January, when
we noticed the first bud of a tulip.

6 More and more tulips sprouted. 2nd March 17th March

7 25th March

8 Art work While we were waiting our tulips to bloom, we created some paper tulips.

9 Blooming time Our first tulip bloomed on 5th April. Children could not stop watching the flower. They could not get tired of it.

10 We were watching and counting flowers each day
We were watching and counting flowers each day. That was the most beautiful time of this project. Children observed tulips with such a joy and drew on a board how much of them bloomed. 6th-12th April

11 14th April 15th April

12 Recording the number of bloomed tulips

13 Project Conclusion We found out that a species of a tulip affects when the tulip will bloom. In our case shorter tulips bloomed earlier than the taller ones. Our prediction was correct. I am very glad that we participated in this project. Pupils were very excited while they were waiting their tulips to bloom. When they saw a lot of sprouted tulips they hardly waited to see the first bloom. They even remembered where they had planted their tulip and they had little competition whose tulip would bloom earlier. We are very proud, because 38 tulips out of 40 bloomed. I think that my pupils learnt a lot from this project– they all know tulips, parts of them, their needs …
