2 Parts of hard drive The hard drive has a lot of parts that are often overlooked these include Cover Mounting Holes Base Casting Spindle Slider (and Head) Actuator Arm Actuator Axis Actuator SCSI Interface Connector Jumper Pins Jumper Power Connector Tape Seal Ribbon Cable Platters Case Mounting Holes

3 What factors affect storage speed?
There are many factors that affect the storage speed. One of these being Access time this is the time that it takes for a computer to find the data and read it. The Access time is measured in milliseconds and the lower the number than the faster it is since that would mean it reaches the memory faster. Another factor the Random Access which is the ability of a device to jump directly to what is desired. Sequential Access is reading data from the beginning to end. Finally the last being the Data Transfer Rate which the amount of fata the device can move per seconds the higher the number being better. These are all different factors that will affect the storage speed.

4 How does a hard disk drive work?
Hard Disk Drives work as the main storage device for most computers. It contains one or more platters with the associated read-write heads. The platter is a flat disk made of glass or aluminum with coated magnetic iron oxide particles. Extra platters will result in more data storage capacity it usually ranges 40 GB to 2 TB. The platters have read-write heads that are right over the platter by just a few micro inches it then reads the data by using the magnetic particles.

5 What’s the downside of hard disk storage?
Hard disk storage are not perfect at all. They are not all that durable and can easily be altered by foreign magnetic fields, dust, mold, smoke particles, heat, and mechanical problems. Hard disk are estimated to only last about 3 years and it’s recommended for you to back up your storage every 2 years. If a dust particle or something else small gets onto the hard drive it can result in random lost of data. Luckily they are sealed in a case to help protect it but this doesn’t necessarily make it safe from any inconvenience.

6 Conclusion Hopefully you now have a better understanding of how hard drives work. Enjoy these pictures of them.
