2. Parking and Directions
We are expecting more than 150 volunteers the day of the event. Unfortunately we are unable to provide parking for all of our volunteers. The George R. Brown Convention Center has a number of affordable parking options and there are hourly on-street, garage and surface parking lots available in walking distance.

Breakfast and Lunch
We want to make sure our volunteers are well
hydrated and strong. A small snack breakfast,
coffee and water are provided for our morning shift
volunteers and a box lunch for our volunteers
during the afternoon shift. We also have food
vendors in the GRB to purchase food and drinks.
Please remember, NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN THE THEATER OR COMPETITION ROOMS.

3. Arrival and Check-In
Upon your arrival please check in at the Registration table at the top of the A & B escalators. Sign in, pick up your name badge, and breakfast before heading to your designated area. Please wear your company or organization’s t-shirt (i.e., a Shell Company shirt). If you do not have a company shirt we will have a volunteer shirts available.

5. Description and Instructions
Creative Writing/Film Judge:
Our students have worked hard creating their scripts and videos for this Challenge. As a creative writing judge you will help score each team to help find the 2014 winners.
The Problem to Solve:
Due to population increases and economic growth, the demand for clean water and energy has skyrocketed, leading to clean water and energy shortages. In order to mitigate the effect of these shortages and sustain the quality of life on a global scale, we need to find innovative ways to access, conserve, and efficiently utilize clean water and energy resources.
Creative Writing/Film Challenge:
Students will develop an action research documentary for their peers regarding shortages of clean water and/or energy.
Elementary Schools will create a research documentary that captures the impact increased access to clean water and/or energy resources has on the quality of life.
Middle Schools will create a research documentary that captures the impact conservation of clean water and/or energy resources have on the quality of life.
High Schools will create a research documentary that captures the impact efficient use of clean water and/or energy resources has on the quality of life.
The documentary should be well-researched, educational, and informative, consist of a minimum 3 interviews, and should not exceed 5 minutes. Each team must submit three digital files: 1) a typed outline of their action research plan (.doc or .pdf), 2) a completed version of the documentary (saved as a WMV file) and 3) a reflective 3 page report.
