Burma Liberia Green = Countries that use the metric system Gray = Countries that do not use the metric system

What is the metric system?
The metric system is also called the International System of Units (SI). The base units of measurement in the SI system are: length – meter (m) mass – gram (g) Volume – liter (L) time – second (s) temperature – kelvin (K) (but we will use Celsius (°C) in this class)

Tools for measuring length
Meter stick, ruler

Tools for measuring Mass
Scale, balance

Tools for measuring volume

What is the metric system?
The metric system is based on multiples of 10 and all converting in the metric system can be done by multiplying or dividing by multiples of 10, (10, 100, 1000, etc.) The meter, gram, liter, second, & kelvin can all be made larger or smaller by adding prefixes to each base unit.

Example: 4 km = _________ m

Please turn your Measuring Liquid Volume Lab into the in-box. Staple it if necessary. *There is a stapler on the back counter. Please have your SI Units homework out so I can stamp it.
